Each year Manufacturing Day takes place on the first Friday of October. A national movement, it addresses common misconceptions about manufacturing, by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and collaboratively show what manufacturing is and isn’t. By working together, we are proactively addressing the skilled labor shortage we all face, connecting with future generations and ensuring the ongoing prosperity of the whole industry.
We talk a lot about the skills gap, but the truth is that it is a very real concern for so many of us. Today’s workforce will be retiring soon, and those skillsets are going to be in-demand to continue to close the gap.
Many have no idea what manufacturing really looks like today, or how it has evolved over the years fueled by industry innovation. No longer is it the dusty, dirty, dark manufacturing floor we picture of yesteryear.
It’s a whole new arena. Think 3D printing, automation, cloud and IoT. Today’s manufacturers are harnessing all of these tools and more to propel themselves into the future and to remain competitive. Manufacturing is sophisticated. It’s advanced. And it’s NOW.
