The National Manufacturing Institute’s recent survey, The Skills Gap in Manufacturing 2015 and Beyond advises that nearly 3.5 million manufacturing jobs will need filled over the next decade. Additionally, according to an analysis done by Strayer@Work some of the most in-demand, as well as most lacking skill sets for those jobs are creativity, analytic and critical thinking skills.
With approximately 2 million of the open positions going unfilled due to a gap in skills, many industry executives and advocates are seeking ways to proactively work to ensure they are prepared to meet customer demand now and into the future.
As manufacturers, how do we take charge and combat the growing skills gap as well? Two areas are key – workforce development and STEM education, and at Flexware Innovation, Inc. we completely agree that creativity plays an active role in helping close the gap.
