FISHERS, IN, April 1, 2026 — Flexware Innovation, a leader in advancing smart manufacturing, today announced the acquisition of Microsoft Excel, citing its status as the most widely deployed Manufacturing Execution System in the world.

The strategic move comes after an extensive analysis of the global MES landscape, in which Excel emerged as the clear market leader across production floors worldwide. “Excel provides reliable shift handoff logs, quality tracking sheets, and at least one mission-critical scheduling tool that Gary on second shift created. Evidently it’s held together by a macro no one fully understands,” said Sachin Misra, Flexware’s Senior Vice President and General Manager.

Under the terms of the agreement, Excel will be embedded as a primary interface option within Flexware’s SparkMES platform, along with the often-requested dark mode. Conditional formatting will serve as the default SPC module. Gary’s macros will be preserved as-is and are not subject to audit.

Included in the acquisition is Clippy, Microsoft’s helpful digital assistant from the late 1990s. Misra predicted Clippy will soon be the face of Industrial AI.

Flexware will continue to offer SparkMES for facilities pursuing modern MES capabilities. The company states it will no longer pass judgment on facilities that have not yet made that transition. “The market has spoken. Who are we to argue?” concluded Misra.

This announcement was made on April 1st. SparkMES is real. Excel was not actually acquired. Gary’s macros remain unsupported.
